DSM-5 and Aggressive, Impulsive, and Disruptive Behavior

Presenter: Michael Labellarte, M.D

We want to alert you, that due to restrictions associated with the government shutdown, our scheduled speaker, Stuart White, who is an employee of NIMH will be unable to fulfill his commitment as the speaker for the fall conference as it is illegal for him to work in any capacity.

Although we will miss Dr. White's presentation, we are pleased to announce that Michael Labellarte, M.D.  will provide a comprehensive overview of the DSM 5 in the morning.  In the afternoon, he will present on Aggressive, Impulsive, and Disruptive Behavior.  This 6 hour CEU presentation will be unique to the MSPA conference beyond the two hours presented in Anne Arundel County.

Also, Duane Isava, Ph.D. will be helping Dr. Labellarte present on behavior modification of self-control and executive function. Objectives: after this workshop, participants will--

1.  Learn to apply the perspectives to complicated pediatric cases where DSM diagnoses are not enough.

2. Understand the updates in DSM-5.

3. Recognize how DSM-5 diagnoses can manifest differently in children and adolescents.

4. Understand the development and natural course of oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder.

5. Learn about evidence-based approaches to teaching children emotional and behavioral self-control.

6. Learn about a novel approach to training executive function in children with ADHD.

Michael J. Labellarte, Sr., M.D. is a child and adolescent psychiatrist. Dr. Labellarte’s current practice centers around consultation and ongoing treatment of children and adolescents with complicated stories and complex psychiatric presentations. He utilizes psycho-pharmacotherapy, parent-management training, and other evidence-based treatment approaches.  Dr. Labellarte is an expert in pediatric psychopharmacology, with extensive research experience in diagnosis and treatment of medication-responsive disorders, and monitoring for potential adverse effects (or “side effects”) of medication.

We apologize for any inconvenience in this last minute change and appreciate your understanding and support.  We hope that you will continue to be excited to participate in the upcoming MSPA Fall Conference.
